Preparing Students

How can you help?

The Macquarie Transition Program has been developed as a result of international and Australian research which identified the importance of the First Year Experience in students’ satisfaction with university study.

It was reported in The Age newspaper in August 1999 that 38% of first year students express ‘definite dissatisfaction’ with university by the end of the first semester. Many students name isolation and loneliness as major factors in this dissatisfaction.

The Macquarie Transition Program has developed Academic Orientation days to assist first year students

If students are familiar with the university environment and services it is hoped that this will make their transition less daunting and they will feel more comfortable seeking advice if they need to.

The Macquarie Transition Program, together with the Public Relations Unit, is keen to engage high school teachers in the preparation of students for university.

Macquarie University already provides a number of opportunities to assist prospective students make the transition.

We welcome and encourage you to attend and make use of these events.

We also encourage you to explore this website which will be updated and added to during the year, so maintaining regular visits will keep you informed of new services and events.
