Although at University students are expected to be much more independent than at school, they are not completely on their own in a system that doesn't care.
The Macquarie Transition Program held Academic Orientation days just before the commencement of classes to assist first year students.

- the Library Information Desk and IT Training courses
- the University Counselling and Health Services Office on campus for Learning Skills Seminars
- Departmental Offices
Parents are welcome to come to Macquarie University and walk around the campus. Visit the Library, Museums and Collections, Art Gallery and the Sculpture Park (see http://www.mq.edu.au/community/)
