- What is a Mentor?
- Cultural Diversity and Intercultural Communication
- Setting goals and monitoring progress
- Boundaries, roles and responsibilities
Training content is delivered through a mixture of online modules and face-to-face workshops, in collaboration with various departments of the university. This training is continually being reviewed and updated to meet the changing needs and expectations of both new students as well as the feedback we receive from the Mentors themselves! It is an ever evolving program that is proud to have student involvement and engagement at its core!
Please note that the training commences in January, concluding in mid-February and the Orientation days typically take place during February in the week prior to classes, and that to become a Mentor, attendance at all training and Orientation days is compulsory!
Mentors are selected from over 500 applications received and undergo training to prepare them for the Orientation Days and to enhance their existing skills. Successful applicants are selected for their interpersonal, communication and leadership skills and qualities.
After one year as a mentor, they are eligible to apply to become team leaders, who train and supervise new mentors.
