Access changes to prayer space

To better support our staff and students in their religious observance, the University will activate swipe card access to the prayer space at E3A from Friday 5 August. Students and staff will need their campus card in order to enter the prayer space after this date.

We are very proud of our diverse University community and committed to religious acceptance and the free expression of faith. We have also welcomed into the prayer space anyone from the broader community who wished to use it. However, in recent years the demand for the E3A prayer space has exceeded its capacity, as set out under workplace health and safety regulations.

In order to ensure that our staff and students can use the space freely and conveniently, we have decided to provide access to only those members of the University community who wish to use it. We have worked closely with student religious groups in devising and implementing this solution, and advised community members who use the space of alternative facilities in the area.

After 5 August, only staff and students with a Macquarie University campus card who have organised access to the space will be able to use the E3A ground floor prayer space.

If you would like to activate your campus card for swipe access to the prayer space, please email buildingaccess@mq.edu.au with your staff or student number. Once added, you will then be able to use your card to access the facility. All other arrangements for the use of the space remain in effect, and there are no other changes to its operation.

If you have any questions regarding the prayer space, please email Imtiaz Bhayat.
