Our Footprint
One of the Actions Groups deveoped to improve the sustainability performance of Macquarie was set the task of capturing the Footprint of the University. Rather than using external consultants to complete the work, Sustainability@MQ has partnered with the Graduate School of the Environment to integrate the project into the postgraduate GSE844 unit as a student assessment.
The GSE844 students will be using and further developing a model produced for the Sydney Olympic Park Authority by previous students several years ago. Given the complexity of completing Footprints, Sustainability@MQ staff are endeavouring to gather as much data and information as possible prior to handing the project over to students.
While not yet specified in detail, several criteria will be addressed including information pertaining to water, energy, waste, transport, human resources, planning and development and quality of life. The selected criteria and resulting information will provide the basis for benchmarking and reporting in the future.
We hope to be able to share the findings of the project by mid 2008.
