recent activity
- At the launch of Bushcare@MQ on National Tree Day, over 20 volunteers attended, despite rainfall. They planted over 200 lomandras on the egde of Mars Creek, with the days rain making sure they were well and truly watered in!
- Since the launch, a second buschare session has been held, where 30 trees, groundcovers and shrubs were planted in the same location.
- Bushcare@MQ celebrated World Wetlands Day on Monday 2 Feb. Our bushcare group learnt about the significance of wetlands, and the function of Mars Creek as a wetland. We also learnt to identify many native and non-native flora in our campus wetland. After some snacks and refreshments, the keen volunteers pulled out many weeds at our initial bushcare site, including portulacca and many more. You can find out more about this event from the event flyer (PDF 0.35MB).
- 108 new members signed up to the Bushcare@MQ group during O-Week!
- Over 20 volunteers showed up to the Bushcare Workshop on 21 March in Lane Cove National Park. We learnt about the history of the area, health and safety measures, bushcare techniques, common weed and native species to the area, and of course had some delicious morning tea and did some restoration work!
