Our Staff

Leanne Denby

Leanne's background is quite diverse, having spent eleven years as a medic in the Australian Army. After completing a degree with Honours at the University of Sydney, Leanne worked there as a casual teacher, helping to deliver the Sustainable Cities course. In December 2006, Leanne joined the ARIES team, beginning work immediately on a report for submission to the VC on why MQ should take on the sustainability challenge. Leanne now works full time for Macquarie University as the Director of Sustainability.

As Director of Sustainability, Leanne provides direction, guidance and support to seek change towards sustainability within the policies, practices and culture of the University. This includes, but is not limited to, sustainability in aspects such as operations, learning and teaching, procurement and human resources. Leanne’s role includes liaising with staff, students and external stakeholders to build awareness, understanding, partnerships and participation in initiatives to improve the sustainability performance of the University.

Belinda Bean

Belinda has been a student at Macquarie University since 2004. She completed her undergraduate Bachelors in Commerce Marketing in 2006, taking a particular interest in consumer behaviour. Belinda then wrote her honours thesis in 2007 on behaviours towards climate change, conducting a market segmentation study of incentives for household energy conservation. This sparked her keen interest in sustainability, so she started the Masters of Sustainable Development course in 2008. She was very excited to receive the Sustainability Support Officer position at Sustainability@MQ, and is now happily incorporating and managing work, study and social life. Belinda's favourite quote comes from the Stockholm Declaration: "Man has the fundamental right to freedom, equality, and adequate conditions of life, environment of quality that permits a life of dignity and well-being, and he bears a solemn responsibility to protect and improve the environment for present and future generations."

Iain Brew

Iain has been a student at Macquarie University since 2006, and is currently in his final year of a concurrent double degree in Media Screen Production and BA Contemporary Music, with the vision of taking on post graduate studies. Iain administers the online systems and resources of Sustainability@MQ, which includes this website and the development of community collaboration tools, such as MediaWiki. With a keen interest in new media and marketing, Iain also creates media for Sustainability@MQ, such as the Town Hall Video, played earlier this year.

Brad McIntyre

Brad has been studying at Macquarie University since 2006. Currently he is in his second year of a Bachelor's degree in Science, majoring in Resource and Environmental Management. Having an interest in climate change and sustainability has naturally lead him to becoming a part of the Sustainability@MQ team. Brad is the newest member of the team, having only joined in semester 2 2008. He believes that failing to plan is planning to fail.
