Short Term Exchange - Jagiellonian University (July)

Hosted by the Jagiellonian University’s award-winning summer school, students will receive Polish language and history lessons as well as take part in cultural and social activities. Students will gain credit towards their Macquarie award program - overseas.

This program at Jagiellonian brings together Polish studies students of various from around the globe. Language classes will be held during mornings, while content classes will take place during the late afternoon. Course dates are 3-23 July 2017.

Students participating in the course will be enrolled during WV at Macquarie in PLH 131/231/331(3 credit points). All students must be enrolled into the unit to receive this credit. Standard tuition fees (HECS or full fee) for enrolment are payable to Macquarie. Please note the cost of enrolment at Macquarie is not included in the program logistics fee. Students cannot enrol themselves into the unit until they have been accepted into the program and a waiver has been entered. Grades will be recorded as “satisfactory” or “fail” and, provided students pass, will not have their GPAs affected.

Accommodation: Accommodation is available in the PIAST dormitory. Limited single rooms are available on a ‘first-come, first served basis’. An additional payment of 795 PLN/Polish złoty (~$300) is required for a single room. Accommodation will be available from Sunday 2 July (check-in after 4pm) until Sunday 23 July.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled into an undergraduate degree (Bachelor) at Macquarie University with a demonstrable relevance to Polish Studies 
  • Completed a minimum 12 credit points (cp) toward their relevant MQ degree at time of assessment^
  • Students must have minimum GPA 2.0 of 4.0 (minimum pass average) at time of assessment*
  • This program is designed specifically for Polish Studies beginners students who are studying PLH units at Macquarie at the time of application and assessment. Students in their first semester of study at Macquarie of a Bachelor's degree may be considered exempt from the above two requirements*^ should they be able to demonstrate their degree's relevance to Polish Studies eg. major or minor in Polish Studies
  • Polish Studies Diploma of Language (Dip.Lang) students who do not meet^ may be considered only if they have completed a minimum 12 credit points at time of assessment in a concurrently enrolled Macquarie University Bachelor degree
  • Students enrolled in a stand-alone Dip.Lang may apply and may be considered for selection provided they have completed at least 9cp towards their Macquarie University Dip.Lang and are enrolled in at least 3cp worth of PLH in the MQ academic session prior to the residential program taking place
  • Satisfy other criteria specified in the Student Exchange Policy
  • In special circumstances the Department of International Studies in conjunction with MacAbroad reserves the right to exercise its full discretion in its selection process

Insurance: Travel insurance policy covering the student from the day s/he departs Australia until s/he returns.

Program Costs: Standard cost of enrolment at Macquarie into PLH 131/231/331 shell unit. Also, cost of accommodation, board and cultural programs of approx. 2506 PLN/Polish złoty.
