Short Term Exchange - Chinese Language and Culture Program: Nanyang Technological University

This program is perfect for students who are keen to pick up a new language, and to conduct basic conversations in Chinese, as well as gain deeper insights to the Chinese Culture through lectures, hands-in sessions in Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Paper Cutting, Traditional Chinese Medicine and field trips.

In January 2017 students participating may be eligible to receive an additional scholarship from the Australian federal government in the form of a New Colombo Plan (NCP) scholarship to the value of $3,000.

Accommodation: Students need to pay for their own accommodation (From approximately S$1,200). Payable upon check-in. Students will be staying off-campus at either Hotel West, The Genting Hotel, or YWCA Fort Canning Lodge with daily transport provided to get to campus and back. Check-in will take place on 3rd January, while check-out will take place on the 23rd of January. Further information will be provided to successful applicants.
More Information: The program consists of 2 parts: Part 1: Chinese Language – designed for students with little to no background in Chinese language, Part 2: Chinese Cultural Studies – The Chinese cultural studies course aims to expose students to the interesting aspects of Chinese culture and its art forms through understanding the history of China, to appreciating the philosophy and aesthetic aspects of Chinese calligraphy, Chinese paper cutting, and, Traditional Chinese Medicine. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this program, you must:

  • Enrolled into an undergraduate degree at Macquarie
  • Students must have minimum GPA of 2.0 at time of assessment
  • Completed a minimum 12cp at time of assessment
  • Pay the $50 Application Fee
  • Satisfy other criteria specified in the Student Exchange Policy

Important notes:

NTU Program Fee: S$1,030 payable to NTU upon submission of online NTU application. Programme fees includes the costs of administrative, and material fees only. It does not include airfare and airport taxes, local transportation costs, travel insurance, visas, accommodation, meals, personal expenses, and off-campus accommodation costs. Administrative fees includes the use of non-academic or non-obligatory facilities, services and functions at NTU. It also covers campus orientation, cultural & social activities, daily transport (Mon-Fri) to NTU from Hotel West, miscellaneous university fees, and mandatory Group Hospitalisation and Surgical Insurance (GHSI) for international students.

Insurance: Travel insurance policy covering the student from the date of departure from Australia to the date of return.

Program Costs: Macquarie enrolment fees: students will be enrolled into a corresponding Macquarie unit (INTS103), for which a standard fee (or HECS deferral) applies.
