|International Program in Liberal Arts (IPLA)||IPLA provides an opportunity for students at our partner institutions to study a variety of Liberal Arts classes taught in English, including Economics, Management, Education, Law, History, and Literature at Tohoku University, Japan.|
The program also offers Japanese language and culture classes in order to assist students in understanding Japanese language and customs.
|Junior Year Program in English (JYPE)||The main purpose of this program is to offer an opportunity for overseas students to take science, engineering, and agricultural science courses at Tohoku University, without having to attain the Japanese language proficiency that would be necessary to take the same courses in Japanese. All lectures are given in English and course credits will be given by the standards for the equivalent courses offered in Japanese.|
|DEEp-Bridge program (Direct Enrollment Education Program for Humanities/Social Science Students)||DEEp-Bridge is an exchange program for students in humanities and social sciences who have a JLPT rating of N3 or higher. Participants can take Japanese language and co-learning classes that match their individual levels. Those with a JLPT rating of N1, or Level 6 on Tohoku University's Japanese Placement Test, can take General Education or Specialized Classes offered in humanity/social science faculties together with Japanese students.|
Additional requirement: as the program is conducted in Japanese, students need to have a JLPT rating of N3 or higher.
|DEEP (Direct Enrollment Education Program For |
Natural Science Students)
|DEEP for Natural Science Course allows international students to take classes and perform research alongside Japanese students. Undergraduates will be able to experience the wide range of fields and highly specialized courses Tohoku University offers through taking General Education and specialized subjects. Graduates will participate in world-class research through their departments’ activities in addition to attending lectures. International students will be matched with supervising professors in accordance with their academic interests.|

Insurance: It is a requirement of the exchange program that all students must purchase their own travel insurance to cover them for the duration of their entire journey overseas.
Program Costs: You remain enrolled at Macquarie University and continue to pay your tuition fees to Macquarie University. As an exchange student you pay no tuition fees to host university. However, you must also always be prepared for unexpected expenses, and should consider how you will be dealing with the expenses of your exchange before you leave your home country. Prior to departure, you will need to save sufficient funds to cover all of your expenses for the duration of your exchange. Some costs to consider include: airfares, students visa (if required), travel health insurance, accommodation, food, additional travel, entertainment, textbooks, incidental expense. If you wish to work while you are away, it is important to note that work rights for international students vary from country to country.
