Jilin University (JLU) is a leading national research university under the direct jurisdiction of China's Ministry of Education. Jilin University is one of the most prestigious "Top 10" universities in China, and has several research projects in automobile engineering, chemistry, computer science, electrical engineering and biology be identified as internationally renowned. JLU also provides undergraduate and graduate programs across board as in law, literature, philosophy, medicine and veterinary science etc. 

Jilin University is one of the key universities involved in China's Project 985, Project 211 and Project 2011. the university has 7 campuses in 6 districts which are home to 39 colleges covering 13 academic disciplines, including philosophy, international relations, economics, law, literature, education, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and military science. The University has 13 disciplinary areas, 6 national key laboratories, and 7 national bases for the development of basic science. Other resources include 5 research bases for humanities and social sciences, 11 key laboratories sponsored by the Ministry of Education and 11 by other ministries of Chinese government.

Course Details: The duration of this program will be from 1 January 2017 to 31 August 2018. The total scholarship amount will be AU$6,000, in which AU$5,000 is the ECKSEP scholarship and AU$1,000 is Travel Grant. Please be advised that the application will be closed once we have enough eligible candidate(s). Jilin University offers both English-taught programs and Chinese-taught programs, please visit their College of International Education (CIU) website for more information.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for this program, you must:

  • Have Australian Citizenship or Australian Permanent Residence
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (varies each program), 
  • Completion of at least 12cp at the time of application. 18cp to go abroad, 
  • Enough credit points remaining to complete the program, 
  • Comply with the eligibility criteria outlined in the Student Exchange Policy. 

The duration of this program will be from 1 January 2017 to 31 August 2018. The total scholarship amount will be AU$5,000 and the places are very limited. Please be advised that the application will be closed once we have enough eligible candidate(s).

Important notes:

Application Fee and Payment Options: For all exchange programs (semester and short term), there is a compulsory application fee. For more information and payment options please refer to the Cost and Funding Website.

Insurance: It is a requirement of the exchange program that all students must purchase their own travel insurance to cover them for the duration of their entire journey overseas. More information will be given to students upon acceptance.

Program Costs: You remain enrolled at Macquarie University and continue to pay your tuition fees to Macquarie University. As an exchange student you pay no tuition fees to host university. However, you must also always be prepared for unexpected expenses, and should consider how you will be dealing with the expenses of your exchange before you leave your home country. Prior to departure, you will need to save sufficient funds to cover all of your expenses for the duration of your exchange. Some costs to consider include: airfares, students visa (if required), travel health insurance, accommodation, food, additional travel, entertainment, textbooks, incidental expense. If you wish to work while you are away, it is important to note that work rights for international students vary from country to country. For further information about your visa restrictions please contact the consulate or embassy of your host country.
