Lecturer in Cultural Studies

Dr Matthews lectures across media and cultural studies at the Department of Media, Music, Communication and Cultural Studies at Macquarie University. She graduated from Adelaide University with a BA (Hons) in English and Politics in 1991, and undertook her PhD at Griffith University, completing her doctorate in 1997.

Her work is positioned at the intersection of auto/biography, Deaf and disability studies, popular genres of broadcast and electronic media, and education. She also has an interest is the role of media in processes of social and political change.

She is currently working with Naomi Sunderland of Griffith University, on a book entitled Moving Stories: Listening to Digital Life Stories, which consider the way digital life narratives have been and might be listened to by policy makers and professionals, particularly in the area of health.
