Frequently asked questions

How will I know if I’ve received an offer?

If you are eligible, you will receive a direct offer from Macquarie University, not from UAC. This offer will be sent to the email address that you listed on your UAC application from 10am.

Why am I receiving an offer now?

This offer to study at Macquarie University is based on our existing entry criteria, but is being made outside standard UAC rounds. Any offers you receive in this round are based on you meeting either:

  • published ATAR cut-offs – including any bonus points you are eligible to receive, or
  • our Academic Entry Program (AEP) criteria, which considers a student’s performance in individual subjects and matches their strengths to a degree. We review results for the NSW HSC Board Developed Courses (Category A subjects only) that correspond to select Macquarie degrees and make an offer dependent on performance in these subjects.

Why is Macquarie doing this?

Now that you have your results, we see no reason to make you wait until January to explore your options, so we have decided to make offers ahead of the Christmas break. If this is your dream degree, you can accept your offer and enrol, then relax over the holidays.

Can I still get offers in the January UAC rounds?

This is an additional offer round, so you may still be eligible to receive offers through UAC in the January and February rounds. If you want to adjust your preferences for those rounds, follow the standard process to ensure you receive the offers you want. But if the direct offer you receive from Macquarie on 16 December is your dream degree, you can accept your offer and enrol now.

Can I bank this offer and decide what I want to enrol in when I have received other offers?

Yes, you can keep or accept this offer while you are waiting to receive other offers in later UAC rounds. Students receive one offer per round, but later offers don’t cancel out earlier offers. If you get your first preference offer in an earlier round, you will need to adjust your preferences to be considered for additional offers in later rounds. You can then choose the offer that appeals most.

I had Macquarie listed as UAC preference 3, why have I received an offer?

Macquarie received a number of enquiries from students who had missed the preference change deadline. As a result we have decided to extend the eligibility to include students who had listed a Macquarie course as their UAC preference 3.

I've completed an International Baccalaureate, and had Macquarie listed in my preferences (1-3) by Monday 12 December. When will I receive notification if I am eligible for an offer?

This direct offer initiative is limited to students who are completing the HSC and are eligible to receive an ATAR on Friday 16 December. If you’ve completed the IB your eligibility for this offer will be assessed based on your ATAR, including any bonus points you may be eligible to receive.
Due to the IB results release date, if you are eligible for an offer from Macquarie you will receive notification from the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) on Thursday 5 January 2017 or Thursday 18 January 2017.

I've completed my year 12 studies in a state other than NSW or ACT and had Macquarie listed in my preferences (1-3) by Monday 12 December. When will I receive notification if I am eligible for an offer?

This direct offer initiative is limited to NSW and ACT students who are completing the HSC and are eligible to receive an ATAR on Friday 16 December.
If you reside outside of NSW and ACT your eligibility for this offer will be assessed based your ATAR, including any bonus points you may be eligible to receive.
Due to the results release date in your state, if you are eligible for an offer from Macquarie you will receive notification from the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) on Thursday 5 January 2017.
