Emergency telephone number

In cases of serious illness, injury or safety concern dial
9999 (Security), Do NOT dial 000.

State your name, the problem and the location of the emergency.

Security will call an ambulance and ensure access for the ambulance.

Security officers are also able to provide first aid assistance.

Note: DO NOT move the casualty unless there is a danger to life. Switch off any electricity or mechanical equipment involved (if safe to do so).

Parking

The University operates a Restricted Parking Area Scheme. Periodical entry permits (annual car parking stickers) are available on personal application to the Cashier's office in the Student Centre (current cost is $125.00, excluding. GST for one year or $71.00, excluding GST for half a year). A staff ID number is needed and proof of employment (pay slip) may be required.

Alternatively if you are presenting a limited number of lectures or tutorials you may wish to make use of a daily entry permit which is available from ticket dispensing machines near the two main entrances and other identified car parks within the campus (coins are needed and the cost is $8 per day).

The cashiers' office is open 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays and the short Christmas break) part of the Student Centre located on the ground floor of the Lincoln Building (C8A).

Printery

Large printing jobs are handled by the university printery - Macquarie Lighthouse Press. These jobs include unit outlines, study guides, unit materials in general and undergraduate books of readings to be sold through the on-campus Co-op bookstore. Check with your department about the departmental requisition process.

Deadlines for orders are set for the beginning of each semester as this is a peak time for jobs. Deadlines are published in the Staff News, also available on the internet. Outside of peak times most jobs are turned around in about one week. The extension for Macquarie Lighthouse Press is 7385.

Room locations

Each room in the university is identified by a code giving its location on the campus, e.g., E7B 263. The E7B refers to a building on the eastern side of the campus (E), Site number 7 and building block B. As for room number 263, the first number "2" refers to the level that the room is located on and the following two numbers "63" are the room number. Note that rooms located at ground level can begin with a "0", "1", "2" or even "3" depending upon their relative height to sea level.

Centre for Flexible Learning (CFL)

CFL is a centralised service centre, established to assist staff in the development and delivery of their online and multi media teaching materials. The centre provides support for all areas of flexible learning such as iLectures, LAMS and WebCT, use of high quality learning resources and IT.

Feedback for tutor sheet

As a tutor, you have an understanding and special insight into the learning experience of your students in tutorials this semester. It would greatly assist the unit co-ordinator in improving the unit for future students, if you could complete the feedback for tutor sheet. The purpose of the reflection sheet is for the development of teaching and the improvement of the unit. Please also make a copy for yourself before returning to the unit co-ordinator.

Foundation in Learning and Teaching (FILT)

This 4 1/2 day course is offered to all new and sessional teaching staff. It provides you with knowledge and skills that support and enhance your teaching.

Library access

Library borrowing is available to sessional staff. To obtain a library card the library requires you to bring a letter (on official letterhead) from the Institute stating that you are a casual or part time contract staff member and including the dates of your contract. These letters can be obtained by request from the administrative officer in your department. When you get to the library you will be asked to complete a Library Associate Application Form. Allow 48 hours for processing before you return to collect your photo ID library borrowing card.

Library cards also enable you to have remote access to library resources including e-reserve, e-books, e journals & databases. A login and password is required to access these resources remotely, for example, from your computer at home.
