NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships

NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships

Status Closed

The aim of the NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships scheme is to support outstanding health and medical graduates early in their career so that they can be trained to conduct research that is internationally competitive and to develop a capacity for original independent research within Australia. This is achieved by NHMRC funding successful applicants to attain a research based postgraduate degree (Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Masters Degree).

Stipend rates for 2015 are:

  • $25,850 p.a. for the standard stipend,
  • $33,318 p.a. for the priority stipend (Biomedical and Public Health stipend for holders of Allied Health Professional qualifications),
  • $38,488 p.a. for the medical or dental stipends,
  • $43,085 p.a. for the Gustav Nossal stipend.

Full-time scholarships are tax-free .

An allowance of $2,250 p.a. is provided to assist with the purchase of consumables and for travel to relevant conferences. Gustav Nossal Scholars receive an additional allowance of $2,435 p.a.

Scholarship recipients receive a thesis allowance of $500 in the final year.
