Targeted Call for Research

Targeted Call for Research

Status Closed
Aim

A Targeted Call for Research (TCR) is a one-time solicitation for grant applications to address a specific health issue. A TCR specifies the scope and objectives of the research to be proposed, application requirements and procedures, and the review criteria to be applied in the evaluation of applications submitted in response to the TCR. In alignment with the overarching goals of NHMRC's Strategic Plan, a TCR will stimulate or greatly advance research in a particular area of health and medical science that will benefit the health of Australians.

TCRs complement NHMRC's existing suite of funding schemes by funding priority research in defined areas of need and when urgent research needs emerge.

Funding

Funding varies per Targeted Call for Research.

Targeted Call for Research into Dementia in Indigenous Australians
A total of $10 million has been allocated to support a small number of collaborative research teams. Funding will be provided to the top ranked applications until the allocated funding is expended. The number of projects funded will therefore be dependent on the size of the grants.

NHMRC reserves the right not to expend the amount allocated to this TCR if, in the assessment of the independent review panel, applications of sufficient quality are not received.

Funding will be for five years over the period 2018 – 2022. Applications must clearly justify the budget being requested and how it will support the proposed outcomes of the research. NHMRC may adjust the budget to ensure the research can be achieved while ensuring value for money.

Applicants are also encouraged to identify additional sources of funding, if applicable, as part of their research proposal.

Targeted Call for Research into Depression, Anxiety and Suicide Amongst Elderly Australians
A total of $5 million has been allocated to support a small number of research projects identified via this call. Funding will be provided to the top ranked applications until the allocated funding is expended. The number of projects funded is therefore dependent on the size of the grants.

Funding will be available for any period of up to five years over the period 2018-2022. Applications must clearly justify the requested duration and budget and how it will support the proposed outcomes of the research. The Grant Review Panel will consider the information and may adjust the duration and budget to ensure the research can be achieved while ensuring value for money.

NHMRC reserves the right not to expend the amount allocated to this TCR if, in the assessment of the independent expert grant review panel, applications of sufficient quality are not received.

Faculty Processes

The Faculties have their own approval and review processes for grants under this scheme. They may also have deadlines for submission of draft applications that are earlier than the Research Office deadlines. Please ensure that you contact your Faculty, as early as possible, for information on process and deadlines. Faculty contacts:
