ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centres

Aim The Industrial Transformation Training Centres is a scheme that will foster close partnerships between university-based researchers and other research end-users to provide innovative Higher Degree by Research (HDR) and postdoctoral training for the end-user focused research industries vital to Australia's future. The Industrial Transformation Priorities will change from round to round, but in the current round they are:
  • manufacturing;
  • food and agriculture;
  • oil and gas, including petroleum;
  • mining and mining services; and
  • medical devices and biotechnology.

These training centres will foster close partnerships between university-based researchers and the industry members who will use the research outcomes.


The minimum level of funding provided by the ARC is $650,000 per year for the first three years and $150,000 for the fourth year. There is no minimum level for the fifth year. The maximum level of funding is $1M per year per project, for each year of the project (refer to Funding Rules C6.1.5)

The Faculties have their own approval and review processes for grants under this scheme. They may also have deadlines for submission of draft applications that are earlier than the Research Office deadlines.
