Marine and Coastal Impacts and Adaptation
The Marine and Coastal Impacts and Adaptation Research Theme bring together those working on issues such as coastal, estuarine and shelf geoscience, coastal and marine climate risk, global and local change on coastal biodiversity, the safeguarding and sustainable utilisation of bio-cultural heritage and legal strategies for marine environmental governance. The focus will be on Australia both in terms of domestic issues and its role in the Asia-Pacific region.
The particular aims for 2011 focus upon building linkages outside the University. These include networking with other research bodies as well as industry. Specific initiatives include the organisation of a lecture and panel discussion on the legal implications of climate change on coastal Australia and workshops and seminars with key partners in the water and marine research field. The goal is to build greater understanding between researchers working on marine and coastal issues at Macquarie, identify areas and capacity for research projects and strengthen our position for funding and consultancy opportunities that may arise in the future.
