Ways to engage

Our centre members provide high quality supervision with the opportunity collaborate with join multidisciplinary teams. As a postgraduate affiliated with the centre, you’ll have access to:

  • dedicated mentoring within a supportive community of students, researchers and field leaders
  • events such as conferences, workshops, and reading groups
  • a national and international research community including a Distinguished Visitor who joins us annually.
Supervision and support

For information on postgraduate supervision, reach out to members of the Executive Committee. They can offer insights into current research projects, funding support and profiles of centre members. Most centre members provide supervision in their research areas.

Application process

Prospective postgraduate students should apply directly to the University. While successful candidates are registered in their supervisor’s department, aligning your research with the centre’s scope and securing support can strengthen your application.

We welcome inquiries from researchers wishing to undertake research on topics related to the centre’s research interests. When you join our research centre, you can:

  • engage in a vibrant research community with multiple local and international conferences and workshops
  • access financial support to organise your conferences, workshops and host visitors
  • participate in reading groups, seminars and public lectures
  • benefit from mentoring and career development support from senior researchers associated with the centre.

Funding for postdoctoral researchers

The two primary sources of support for postdoctoral work at Macquarie University are the University itself and the Australian Research Council.

We  encourage applications for membership from researchers across the University. Our three areas of focus (social justice and equity, technology and health) are interpreted broadly, and we welcome applications from anyone whose work is concerned with issues of ethics and agency.

We offer three types of membership options:

  • Full membership: Researchers at Macquarie University with research interests aligned with the centre can become full members. Full members receive invitations to all centre events and opportunities for mentoring, and may apply for financial support for their research projects, conferences and workshops.
  • Affiliate membership: Designed for academics at universities outside Macquarie, affiliate members receive access to centre events, fostering collaboration across the academic sector.
  • Community associate: Open to those without academic affiliations, community associates can join the centre’s mailing list and attend its functions, providing an opportunity for engagement and networking without formal research ties.
Full and affiliate membership applications

Applications must include your CV and cover letter outlining:

  • the nature of your research
  • how your work fits into the centre’s research profile
  • what collaborations or partnerships you have with other researchers and/or institutions.

Applications will then be reviewed by the Ethics and Agency Research Centre executive committee.
