Project Summary

Stage 1: Report on The Success of Representative Governance on Superannuation Boards (PDF), published by Mckell Institute, August 2014.

Stages 2-4: A series of further studies that will lead to more reports on aspects of the superannuation industry, in development with the McKell Institute and industry representatives.

The project has brought together a multidisciplinary team, including Dr Mike Rafferty from the University of Sydney for Stage 1. Overall, the project focuses on a number of key issues for the superannuation sector, and particularly industry funds, including the links between fund performance and board composition, the impact of tax regimes, the role of different sub-sectors, and coverage. A series of reports on a range of issues will be forthcoming.

The Stage 1 Report on The Success of Representative Governance on Superannuation Boards (PDF) analysed the performance of industry superannuation funds compared with others from the retail sector.

Stages 2-4 are under development.
