Farah Magrabi | People | AIHI - Australian Institute of Health Innovation
Farah is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Health Informatics within the Australian Institute for Health Innovation. She leads the Centre’s research program on Patient Safety Informatics, focused on the safe and effective use of information technology. She has a background in Electrical & Biomedical Engineering and is passionate about ensuring the safety of information technology in healthcare through good design and the appropriate application of technology.
Farah is internationally recognised for her work on the safety of e-health (Health Informatics). This is a new research area of urgent translational importance, but has few groups actively researching the topic. Her Australian group initiated, and still leads, the analysis of critical incidents and IT safety, and the work is translating to policy rapidly and well ahead of academic citation. She is the lead author of the only two papers cited within the 2011 US Institute of Medicine report which provide new data that e-health can pose risks to patient safety. Her work was twice selected for the Yearbook of Medical Informatics in 2009 and 2011. She has attracted in excess of AU$5.3M in research funding.
