The Macquarie University Indigenous Research Pathway Program provides scholarship support to Indigenous Australians to enrol in a postgraduate degree including Master of Research, Master of Philosophy, or Doctor of Philosophy, in any field of research.

Heart Foundation research scholarships complement other PhD funding sources by strategically providing support for the development of cardiovascular research capacity in under-represented areas of expertise. The Australian Indigenous Scholarship is designed to encourage and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to undertake a PhD or Masters (by research) in cardiovascular research. The Heart Foundation believes that strengthening the research capacity and workforce in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cardiovascular research will, in turn, have a broader impact on the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Applicants must be identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Value and tenure: Stipend of $40,000 pro rata per annum, for up to 2 years for Masters and up to 3 years for PhD*.

Application instructions: Applicants should download and carefully read the Instructions for applicants and Application formavailable from the Heart Foundation website.  Applications require signature by the University and electronic signatures are preferred. Please email a word file of your final application to the Scholarships Officers at by the internal closing date, with the electronic signature of the supervisor and Head of Department included. The Scholarships Officers will obtain Verification by Research Office and will arrange to submit your complete application directly to the Heart Foundation by the Heart Foundation closing date.  If you plan to submit an application, please contact  at least one week before the Heart Foundation closing date, and please forward your application to us, to allow us to obtain verification from the Research Office.

In 2009, with the assistance of the University of Oxford, the Charlie Perkins Trust established annual Charlie Perkins Scholarships to provide two talented Indigenous Australians each year with the opportunity to undertake postgraduate study at the University of Oxford from 2010. <brIn 2011, with support from the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and Cambridge Australia Scholarships, the Scholarships also became available for study at the University of Cambridge. These postgraduate Scholarships are particularly directed towards Indigenous Australians who have the potential to become leaders in their field of study and in their communities. A panel of prominent Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, together with a representative of the British Government and Cambridge Australia Scholarships, select the Charlie Perkins Scholars each year.

Value and tenure: covers full university and college fees, travel costs and an annual stipend to cover living expenses (amount varies), for up to four years*
