EducationMacquarie is widely recognised for the quality of its innovative approach to education. In the most recent Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) evaluation, our research in the sub-discipline of specialist studies in education received a rating of ‘performance above world standard’ and our research in the sub-discipline of education systems received a rating of ‘performance at world standard’.

The Institute of Early Childhood and the School of Education engage in collaborative activities with expert researchers and practitioners in Australia and internationally. Our researchers have also established relationships across early years centres and services, education sectors and with industry partners who are interested in advancing learning across education and community settings.

The School of Education is part of the Australian Research Council Science of Learning Research Centre and
is leading Opening Real Science, a national project to transform the way science and mathematics is taught
in schools.

Our facilities

Our facilities include:

  • Mia Mia Child and Family Study Centre, a long-day early childhood centre with observation rooms for families, students and academic staff
  • Macquarie ICT Innovations Centre, a partnership with the NSW Department of Education and Communities to research and develop innovations in ICT for education and disseminating best practice to schools, and
  • state-of-the-art video observation and recording facilities within the Macquarie University Special Education Centre (MUSEC)
