2008 Student Contribution Amount - Postgraduate degree commenced prior to 2007

If you commenced your course prior to 2007 as a Commonwealth supported student you will be charged a student contribution amount for your unit enrolments according to the rates set out in the 2008 Student Contributions table below.

Commenced before 2005: You may be eligible to study as a pre-2005 student. In this case your student contribution will be the pre-2005 Student Contribution Amount.

Commenced in 2005 or 2006: If you commenced your course in 2005 or 2006 then you will be charged a 2005/2006 student contribution amount.

All units are allocated to a band, which is dependent on the subject area of the unit. Your student contribution amount will be calculated using the Annual Student Contribution Amount from the table below.

Postgraduate Degrees: 2008 Student Contribution Amount for students commencing a course prior to 2007 or who have pre-2005 or pre-1997 status

Postgraduate coursework degrees have differeing values for the standard annual load (SAL). Generally the majority of Masters degrees have a standard annual load (SAL) of 32 credit points and Postgraduate Diplomas and Postgraduate Certificates have a standard annual load (SAL) of 24 credit points. However, there are some courses that vary from these norms.

In order to calculate your student contribution you need to know the standard annual load applicable to your course. If you do not know this you can find it in the table on the Postgraduate Tuition Fees 2008 web page.

Example - the Master of Early Childhood (MECHD) in the Division Australian Centre for Educational Studies has a standard annual load (SAL) of 32 credit points. If you commenced this course in 2006 and are enrolled in a 4 credit point education unit at the National Priority rate in 2008 you need to divide the credit point value of the unit (4) by the annual load for the year (32) and multiply by the annual student contribution amount for the relevant band from the above table ($4,077) ie 4/32 x 4077 = $509.62. Student contributions are charged in whole dollars so you would pay $509. If you chose to pay up-front and were eligible for 20% discount you would pay $407.20.

* EFTSL = Equivalent full-time student load. Macquarie full-time load for a postgraduate degree is 32 credit points. To calculate your EFTSL divide the unit value of the unit(s) by 32, eg 4 units = 4/32 EFTSL = 0.125 EFTSL.

Discount: As a Commonwealth supported student, if you are eligible you will receive a 20% discount if you pay all or part (minimum $500 per census date) of your student contribution amount up-front to the University before the relevant census date.

Standard Annual Load = 24 credit points

2008 Student contribution amount for students commencing a course prior to 2007 or who have pre-2005 or pre-1997 status where standard annual load is 24 credit points

* EFTSL = Equivalent full-time student load. Macquarie full-time load for a postgraduate degree is 24 credit points. To calculate your EFTSL divide the unit value of the unit(s) by 24, eg 4 units = 4/24 EFTSL = 0.1667 EFTSL.

Discount: As a Commonwealth supported student, if you are eligible you will receive a 20% discount if you pay all or part (minimum $500 per census date) of your student contribution amount up-front to the University before the relevant census date.

Standard Annual Load = 40 credit points

2008 Student contribution amount for students commencing a course prior to 2007 or who have pre-2005 or pre-1997 status where standard annual load is 40 credit points

* EFTSL = Equivalent full-time student load. Macquarie full-time load for a postgraduate degree is 40 credit points. To calculate your EFTSL divide the unit value of the unit(s) by 40, eg 4 units = 4/40 EFTSL = 0.1000 EFTSL.

Discount: As a Commonwealth supported student, if you are eligible you will receive a 20% discount if you pay all or part (minimum $500 per census date) of your student contribution amount up-front to the University before the relevant census date.

Standard Annual Load = 28 credit points

2008 Student contribution amount for students commencing a course prior to 2007 or who have pre-2005 or pre-1997 status where standard annual load is 28 credit points

* EFTSL = Equivalent full-time student load. Macquarie full-time load for a postgraduate degree is 28 credit points. To calculate your EFTSL divide the unit value of the unit(s) by 28, eg 4 units = 4/28 EFTSL = 0.1429 EFTSL.

Discount: As a Commonwealth supported student, if you are eligible you will receive a 20% discount if you pay all or part (minimum $500 per census date) of your student contribution amount up-front to the University before the relevant census date.

Standard Annual Load = 30 credit points

2008 Student contribution amount for students commencing a course prior to 2007 or who have pre-2005 or pre-1997 status where standard annual load is 30 credit points

* EFTSL = Equivalent full-time student load. Macquarie full-time load for a postgraduate degree is 30 credit points. To calculate your EFTSL divide the unit value of the unit(s) by 30, eg 4 units = 4/30 EFTSL = 0.1333 EFTSL.

Discount: As a Commonwealth supported student, if you are eligible you will receive a 20% discount if you pay all or part (minimum $500 per census date) of your student contribution amount up-front to the University before the relevant census date.

Standard Annual Load = 23 credit points

2008 Student contribution amount for students commencing a course prior to 2007 or who have pre-2005 or pre-1997 status where standard annual load is 23 credit points

* EFTSL = Equivalent full-time student load. Macquarie full-time load for a postgraduate degree is 23 credit points. To calculate your EFTSL divide the unit value of the unit(s) by 23, eg 4 units = 4/23 EFTSL = 0.1739 EFTSL.

Discount: As a Commonwealth supported student, if you are eligible you will receive a 20% discount if you pay all or part (minimum $500 per census date) of your student contribution amount up-front to the University before the relevant census date.

Summary of discount amounts

Payments for units in the same study period with the same census date will attract a 20% discount if you are eligible for discount. The table below shows some common partial payment amounts.
