Review of NCELTR

The National Centre for English Language Teaching and Research (NCELTR) is the centre for English language teaching learning at Macquarie University. NCELTR offers a range of intensive pre-sessional English language courses for international students at Macquarie, and works closely with the disciplines to provide ongoing language support and services for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

NCELTR is also active in language teacher education, provision of information services, e-learning and publishing in the field of TESOL. The Centre is the largest specialist ESL publisher in Australia.

Located in the Division of Linguistics and Psychology at Macquarie University, NCELTR is closely linked to the AMEP Research Centre which provides research and professional support to Australia’s Adult Migrant English Program.

NCELTR’s mission is to provide academic leadership in the teaching and learning of English language and communication skills through an innovative research and professional development program, and high quality courses, publications and services for students, teachers and administrators in the field.

Terms of Reference for NCELTR Review

  1. To review and make recommendations about the mission, goals, and objectives of NCELTR in view of Macquarie University’s current strategic directions.

  2. To examine options for and make recommendations about the most appropriate organisational and administrative structure and position within the University in order to optimize the potential for NCELTR to achieve its goals and objectives, including quality assurance and sustainability.
