Review of Centre for Open Education and Summer School

The McGaw Review of Learning and Teaching Support Services at Macquarie made recommendations about the location of the Centre for Flexible Learning, Centre for Professional Development and the Centre for Open Education. Regarding COE The Report Recommended:

  1. That Distance Education (including OUA and Conveyancing Law and Practice become a Centre in the new Learning and Teaching division)

  2. That the administration of the Summer Session and Non-Award programs, and also the after hours enquiry service for evening students remain within the Registrar's Office

The integration of CFL and CDP is in the process of implementation and will be finalised by the end of this year. The Centre for Open Education and Summer School still requires attention.

The Centre for Open Education delivers Distance Education programs including the BA, BSc, BEd (ECE) and LLB, and an increasing number of post graduate distance education programs.

The Centre also manages a number of other programs, including non-award study (both for interest and as a pathway for entry to the BA, BSc, BEd (ECE) degrees); summer school study, which provides students with opportunities for remedial study or acceleration, and professional continuing education courses such as the Conveyancing Law and Practice.

It is in this context that a review is proposed with the following terms of reference:

Terms of reference

  1. To review and make recommendations about the mission, goals and objectives of COE and Summer School in the view of Macquarie University's current strategic directions.

  2. To examine options for and make recommendations about the most appropriate organisational  and administrative structure and position within the University in order to help COE and Summer School achieve its goals and objectives, including quality assurance and sustainability.
