Procedure for the Appointment of a Replacement Supervisor


Purpose

This procedure outlines requirements for the appointment of a replacement Supervisor for a higher degree research (HDR) candidate whose Principal or other supervisor has relinquished their position as supervisor, or who has left the University.  This procedure relates to supervisors other than Adjunct Supervisors (refer Procedure for the Appointment of an Adjunct Supervisor)

Responsible Officer or Section

Dean of Division or HDR Nominee

  1. Ensure that either an Acting Supervisor or a replacement Principal Supervisor is appointed from the day that the Principal Supervisor leaves Macquarie or relinquishes their supervisory role.

Principal or Acting Supervisor

  1. Ensure a replacement supervisor is appointed for any other departing supervisor (Associate, Co or Adjunct) such that there are at least two appointed supervisors for HDR candidate in the time-based unit of their research program.
  2. The appointment of the new supervisor is to be advised to HDRO for the benefit of the candidate within two weeks of the resignation/departure taking effect.

HDRO

  1. HDRO to record the supervision registration changes within one week of receiving the completed SUP form.
