Reserve
Reserve is a collection of high-demand materials submitted by your lecturers to ensure equitable access for Macquarie and SIBT students.
What can I borrow?
You can borrow:
- two reserve items for three hours or overnight, or
- one video or DVD for viewing in the Library.
Reserve items are:
- books required as essential unit resources.
- private copies loaned to the Library by teaching staff are kept behind the Reserve counter.
- audiovisual material (mostly videos and DVDs) are kept on the A/V shelves in Reserve in call number order.
- unit folders/unit readers are kept in course number order on the end shelves in Reserve.
Locating items
To search items in Reserve go to the Catalogue, select 'Reserve Collection' and key in your unit code.
Alternatively, at the Library homepage, enter your unit code in the MultiSearch searchbox, and retrieve records for past exams and online chapters and articles as well as books for your unit.
To browse items on the shelves, go to Reserve on level 2 of the Library.
If you cannot find an item on the Reserve shelves, check:

e-Reserve holds online documents, including journal articles, book chapters, lecture and tutorial notes, past exam papers or other materials provided by teaching staff. - 7 Day Loan
Many titles on reading lists are 7 Day Loan items. They are not held in Reserve but are shelved with the Library's main collection.
Borrowing Conditions
- Borrow items using your Campus Card.
- Items borrowed from Reserve may be taken out of the Library. Exceptions are:
- Private copy items
- Serials
- Reference books
- Items from the Closed Access collection held in Reserve.
Overnight Loans
Overnight loans must be borrowed within three hours of the Library closing and returned by 9.05 am on the next working day. Videos and DVDs are not available for overnight loan.
Returning Items
During opening hours, return all Reserve items to the Reserve Returns chute on level 2.
If the Library is closed, return Reserve items to the After Hours Returns Chute, outside the Library, on Macquarie Drive.
Fines and Penalties
Late returns to Reserve are fined $2 per hour up to a maximum of $50.
Other Reserve Facilities
Photocopying
1 networked print station is located in Reserve, as well as 2 photocopy machines which also perform USB print and scanning functions.
Video/DVD Booths
Booths are provided in Reserve for viewing Library AV items. Priority is given to videos and DVDs in the Reserve collection. Only one video/DVD can be used at a time. You must provide your own headphones.
