Deep ocean drilling breakthroughs made during a recent expedition off the south island of New Zealand are moving us closer to understanding what drives the changes in sea levels threatening the inhabitants of so many low-lying communities around the world.
Given the devastation caused by recent disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti and the 2009 Samoan tsunami, and the likelihood that more extreme climate-related events will occur in future, researchers who have just analysed the response to the 2004 Asian tsunami say there are important lessons to be learned which should underpin how we respond to such events in future.

MGSM was ranked 99th on the list of top global MBA schools, while its accountancy and finance programs were rated number five and number eight respectively in the top schools by subject rankings.
Macquarie University will receive more than $25 million in funding this year under the Commonwealth Government’s Research Block Grants scheme. A total of $1.42 billion in grants will be shared among 41 universities across Australia. More than half of the funding will be used to train the next generation of Australian researchers.
