Professor Jeffrey Braithwaite from the Centre for Healthcare Resilience and Implementation Science at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, has been conferred as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in the United Kingdom in an announcement in October, 2015.

Professor Braithwaite has been recognised as a leading researcher in health care, health care quality and interdisciplinary collaboration. There are only 17 other Australians holding this prestigious honour.

“I am honoured to be among the newly appointed Fellows of the Academy of Social Sciences, which makes a vital contribution to supporting research and scholarship right across the social sciences. This is a very special award, because it was given in recognition of work that I am most passionate about, which is policy, governance and leadership in the health sector, especially focused on the safety of patients,” said Professor Braithwaite.

The new Academy of Social Sciences Fellows were recognised after a peer review for the excellence and impact of their work in the social sciences and are drawn from right across the spectrum of academia, practitioners and policymakers.

Professor Braithwaite is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Management and Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health, Royal College of Physicians, UK.

The Academy of Social Sciences of the United Kingdom is the national academy of academics, learned societies and practitioners in the social sciences. Its mission is to promote social science in the United Kingdom for the public benefit. Professor Braithwaite was nominated to the Academy by his learned society, The Society for Studies in Organizing Healthcare, domiciled in the UK.
