To further support the Government as it deals with the changing face of violent extremism, NSW Premier Mike Baird has established a Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Expert Council that will provide advice on NSW approaches. The Council will include experts from the private, academic and NGO sectors.

Dr Julian Droogan, a Senior Lecturer from Macquarie University, was invited to be a member of the Council. Julian's current research projects include a government-funded project examining and assessing CVE in Australia, especially at ways that academics and industry can work together to produce CVE outcomes. Julian has made substantial and regular contributions to radio and television in both Australia and internationally, particularly on issues of countering violent extremism; radicalization and the Islamic State; Asia-Pacific security issues; and topics of global religion. He has contributed Editorials to news sources such as The Australian.
