Macquarie's Final DaysIn mid-April 1824 Lachlan Macquarie returned to London from Mull seeking to finalise with Lord Bathurst the details of a promised Government Pension to recompense him for all his efforts while serving as Governor of NSW. At the same time he took the opportunity to visit and dine with various friends and patrons, petition government officials for capital works programmes to be undertaken on Mull, as well as to investigate a future possible school for Lachlan Jnr. to attend. On 11 June he began to suffer the medical complications that would eventually culminate in his death on 1 July.
