Friday 1. Novr. 1816 !!!
This morning were executed, agreeably to their respective Sentences. the three Criminals under Sentence of Death – namely – Thomas Collins and Hugh Mc.Lair – for High-way Robbery – and Daniel Mowwatting (a Black Native of this Colony) for Rape and Robbery on a young Female White Woman a native of this Colony. — The three malefactors confessed their Crimes – and all Died Penitent. —
Saturday 2. Novr. 1816 !
The Brig Sophia, Commanded by Mr. James Kelly – the Property of Mr. Birch Mercht. at Hobart-Town –) arrived this Day in the Harbour from the Derwent, ladened with Wheat and Potatoes. — The Sophia sailed from the Derwent on the 13th. of last month – and the Govt. Brig Kangaroo had not then arrived there from Port Dalrymple ! —
Monday 4. Novr. 1816 !!!
This day between the Hours of 8,O'Clock in the morning and 12,O'Clock at Noon, were executed, pursuant to their respective Sentences, Colin Hunter, Thomas Dooley, and Michael Ryan, at the usual Place of Execution, for the wilful murder of John Miller Settler near Sydney, and subsequent Robbery of the Property of the said John Miller. —

Tuesday 5. Novr. 1816 !
This morning early I went by water in the Govt. Barge, accompanied by Mrs. M. Mr. & Mrs. Cowper, Capt. Gill, and my own Family, to visit the Native Farm at George's Head, on which occasion Mrs. Macquarie made Boongary the Chief a Present of a Breeding Sow & 7 Pigs – and also a Pair of Muscovy Ducks – together with Suits of Clothes for his wife & Daughter and Philip's Wife. — We afterwards crossed the Harbour to Vaucluse, breakfasted there – and afterwards visited the Tower building at South Head which is already Ten feet above the level of the Ground. — We reimbarked [sic] at Watson's Bay – and returned again to Sydney by Half past 1,O'Clock. —

I drew a Draft of this date on the Police Fund for Five Pounds Sterling, in favor of James Watson Overseer of Public Road Makers, as a Donation on the part of Government in part payment of his Services ! —

Tuesday 12. Novr. 1816 !
I this day Contracted with William Watkins, Stone-Mason, to repair the Jail at Parramatta, and make certain alterations in and additions to thereof, for the sum of Three Hundred Pounds Sterling; which Repairs, additions and alterations he has engaged to Complete within Six Months from this date. —

This afternoon about 5,O'Clock the Ship Willerby – (Private merchantman) Commanded by Capt. Crossett, sailed for the Island of Java; by which opportunity I wrote several Letters (as per Copies) to England & India, enclosing them to the Post-Master General at Batavia. —

I omitted to mention under it's proper date, that I have appointed Mr. John Jaques to be Principal Jailor of the County Gaol, at Sydney, in room of Mr. Danl. Cubitt resigned !

Wednesday 13. Novr. 1816 !
This morning early the Ship Elizabeth (late Male Convict hired Transport) Commanded by Capt. William Ostler, Sailed for Calcutta in Bengal, having on board the several Detachments belonging to the 34th. 56th. 73d. & 89th. Regiments and Royal African Corps, Commanded by Ensigns Kenny of the 89th. and Vicars of the 56th. Regt., amounting in all to Two Comd. Officers, 106 Noncomd. Officers & Soldiers, Eight Women and 11 Children – to join their respective Corps in India; having arrived here (with exception of 73d. Detachment) as Guards in Convict Ships from England. — Mr. Vickery late Surgeon & Supdt. of the Elizabeth proceeds now as a Passenger on board of that Ship. —
By this opportunity I have written some few Private Letters to England & India, and a Duplicate of my last Dispatch (No.12 of 1816) to Earl Bathurst –; also a Private Letter to Henry Goulburn Esqr. M. P. Under Secretary of State in reply to his last. — Capt. Ostler having offered to take charge and particular care of them to England, I have sent H. R. H. The Duke of York a Present of a Pair of Cape Barren Geese in the Elizabeth, and Mrs. Macquarie has given charge of Two Boxes to Capt. Ostler for Mr. Drummond & Miss Meredith.

Thursday 14. Novr. 1816 !
I this day drew a Draft on the Police Fund for One Hundred & Fifty (£150) Pounds Sterling, in favor of Messrs. Howe & Mc.Grath – delivering the said Draft to Mr. Howe –) in part payment of their Contract for erecting a Government Wharf or Quay on the Hawkesbury River at Windsor; this being the 3d. Instalment of said Contract now paid to them. —
In consideration of the greater part of the Govt. Quay or Wharf already erected by the contractors having been carried away or destroyed by the late Floods of the Hawkesbury, I have this day agreed on an Estimate made out and Submitted to me by Mr. Greenway the Govt. Civil Architect, of the additional Expence of repairing and Completing the same in a solid and durable manner – agreeably to a Plan thereof made out by Mr. Greenway –) to allow and pay unto Messrs. Howe & Mc.Grath the additional sum of Two Hundred & Twenty – including Twenty Pounds for Mr. Greenway's trouble in planning and directing them also for payment such Iron & Spike Nails from the Store as can be spared – with a Carpenter and Pair of Sawyers off the Store; the Contractors now engaging to complete the said Quay or Wharf in Eight months from this date.

Friday 15. Novr. 1816 !
This morning, pursuant to their respective Sentences, were executed James Flavill and John Tripp for Burglary and Robbery at Sydney – and John Palmer for Cattle Stealing. —
N. B. Flavill was by Trade a Blacksmith and Farrier at Sydney and a free-man; but the other two Criminals were Convicts. — All of them died penitent and acknowledged the justness of their Sentence.

Saturday 16. Novr. !
I this day released from Jail Five Black Natives who have been confined there for some weeks past on account of their Depredations and hostile conduct towards the White Settlers in the interior where they had been apprehended by the Military Detachments in pursuit of them. — The names of these Natives are Jemmy Monday, Kitten, Jack, Pamborah, and Pinboya. — I gave each of them a Blanket and three days Provisions to carry them Home, Pardoned all past crimes, and cautioned them against the serious Punishments that would certainly be inflicted upon them in the event of their ever manifesting any further hostility against the White Colonists.
I still retained in Jail Jubbinguy – a Black Native – on account of his cruel and sanguinary character. —

I this day made an offer of a Grant of Two Thousand Acres of Land – with the customary proportion of Indulgencies usually allowed – to Mr. Judge Advocate Wylde, in any part of the Colony that he might prefer where there is disposeable [sic] Lands for new Settlers; which offer accepted; and expressed in handsome terms his grateful thanks and acknowledgements for the same.
I also signified my wish to grant his Father Mr. Thomas Wylde – and his Brother in law Mr. Joshua John Moore, Lands with the customary indulgencies along therewith, on their making a written application to me for the same; – intending to give Mr. Thomas Wylde a Grant of One Thousand acres and Mr. Moore a Grant of Five Hundred acres. —

Spirits Due by the Police Fund, to the King's Store ! — 3951 Gallons.
I this day gave George Smith, Clerk in Commisst. Department, an Order to receive from the King's Store, a Donation of Ten Gallons of Spirits, as a reward for his extra Services and remuneration for his extra Expences in taking the late General Muster. —

Monday 18. Novr. !
I drew a Draft of this day's Date on the Police Fund in favor of Mr. Jonathan Griffiths, for Two Hundred Pounds Sterling, in full payment of the Hire of his Brig the Rosetta, sent some time since in pursuit of the Brig Trial of this Post carried away Piratically by Runaway Convicts some time since; which sum was adjudged by Messrs. Birnie and Jones Merchts. of Sydney as a just Compensation for the hire of the said Vessel, altho' only employed on this unsuccessful Service for Fourteen Days. !!! —

Having every reason to be perfectly satisfied with the conduct of Frederick Garling Esqr. during the period he acted as Judge Advocate of this Territory – and the important Duties of which he discharged with the greatest zeal, impartiality, and integrity, I have taken upon myself the responsibility of continuing to him his Salary of £800 Pr. annum, and £100 Pr. annum for House Rent up to the 31st. of last month of October inclusive, notwithstanding his official duties terminated as acting Judge advocate on Mr. Wylde's being Sworn in as such on the 11th. of October; but Mr. Garling had the Business of the Office to wound up and close, which occupied him the greater part of the month of October in his late Capacity as Judge advocate, and therefore I have deemed him entitled to his Salary up to the end of the said month. — I have accordingly given him an Order of this day's date (for his Salary & Lodging Money) on the Police Fund to be paid to 31st. of Octr. 1816 Inclusive. —

This afternoon at Half past 3,O'Clock, Set out by water, with Family, in the Govt. Barge, for Parramatta – arriving there at Half past 6,O'Clock in the Evening; – it being my intention to reside for some time at Parramatta, and until the Govt. House at Sydney is repaired. —

The Govt. Brig Kangaroo arrived this day in Sydney Cove from the Derwent after an absence of 3 Months & 14 Days !!! —
The Ship Mariner – late Male Convict Transport – sailed on same Day for Batavia.

Drew a Draft of this date on the Police fund, in favor of Wm. Roberts, for Five Hundred (£500) Pounds Sterling, in part payment of his Contract with Government for making new Roads & Bridges in Airds, Appin &c. &c.

Stewart, Mariner, for Ten Pounds Sterling, as a Compensation from Government for the loss of Ground & Fruit Trees sustained by him in consequence of a new Street being opened & made through part of his Premises in the Town of Sydney. —

Drew a Draft of this day's date, in favor of Mr. Richd. Rouse, on the Police Fund, for Two Hundred Pounds Sterling (£200); being the amount of his Contract with Government for erecting a Toll-House and Toll-Gate at Moore-Bridge on the Liverpool Road !
