Dear Student

FOBE201 Working with and employing people with disabilities

Serving the public interest through professional service and giving back to the community are distinguishing attributes of Chartered Accountants. As their professional body, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia also gives priority to supporting the community and I am fortunate to work in such an organisation. As you’re probably aware, in business jargon this is called corporate social responsibility.

It is important for the future of Australia to have diversity in skills and experience to maintain our competitive advantage. As most of you will soon be joining the workforce, I encourage you to take up a valuable learning opportunity from Macquarie University.

The university is offering a course that will allow you to develop your understanding of the strengths of all staff, as well as your ability to capitalise on these strengths and to facilitate an inclusive and welcoming workplace.

FOBE201 Working with and employing people with disabilities aims to provide a practical and theoretical understanding of the issues and obstacles faced by people with disabilities in the workplace, and an appreciation of the unique contribution that people with disabilities are able to make to the workplace.

The Institute is pleased to have the opportunity to support Macquarie University in offering this unit, through the Faculty of Business and Economics. More information can be found on Macquarie University’s website or by phoning Sharon Kerr on 02 9850 1480.

Yours sincerely
