Macquarie Accessibility Services

Research Projects

Macquarie Customised Services are currently initiating or playing a significant role in several new and exciting research projects. Two of these projects are:

1. The Voice to Text Automatic Transcription Trial
This trial will run during first semester 2009, and aims to:

  1. test the most appropriate software for converting speech to text with Macquarie University learning and teaching systems
  2. assess the impact of the transcription service on general student outcomes
  3. evaluate the benefit of the transcription service to students with disabilities
  4. gauge the viability of installing and maintaining this service across campus

This project is funded by a Macquarie University Emerging Technologies Grant and will be supported by the Liberated Learning Consortium.

2. The Indigenous Students with Disabilities Project
This project is in partnership with Warawara, Department of Indigenous Studies and Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education, Northern Territory, and aims to:

  1. identify why Indigenous students with disabilities are not accessing available support services
  2. gather evidence for the impact that this is having on their learning outcomes and
  3. establish what measures need to be taken to ensure equity of access to learning and teaching for Indigenous students with disabilities

This project is time lined to be completed by the end of 2010 with proposed funding by an ALTC Grant.
