Postgraduate Program

Overview

Academic staff of the Learning and Teaching Center, through the Institute of  Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD), conduct postgraduate research and coursework programs in higher education. These programs are offered at the levels of Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Masters Degree, with scope to progress to PhD.
Participants can elect to focus on one of three areas:

  • learning and teaching
  • e-learning
  • leadership, management and change in educational organisations

Graduation cloaks

Program Delivery

The program is offered in two modes:

  • fully external mode, with no on-campus attendance required)
  • internal mode, which may involve work with online materials and activities, coupled with several whole-day sessions at weekends or a series of evening sessions

Articulation

Participants in the Postgraduate Program who successfully complete the requirements of the Postgraduate Certificate may articulate with advanced standing into a Postgraduate Diploma or Masters Degree.
Staff who complete the Foundations in e-Learning and Teaching Program(FIeLT) may progress into the 'Learning and Teaching' or 'e-Learning' specialisations of the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, with credit for the unit ACES871. In addition to completing all the requirements set out in FIeLT, those wishing to articulate will be required to undertake additional readings, construct a teaching portfolio and complete a 2,000 word assignment.

Fees, Admission, and Enrolment

Staff of Macquarie University will be given a full waiver of their tuition and student activities fees for the three core units of the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, provided they have not already been granted a fee waiver towards any other course of study while a staff member at Macquarie University.
Those staff who wish to continue their studies and enrol in either of the Postgraduate Diploma or Masters programs will be required to pay the normal HECS charges and student activities fees associated with each additional unit.
