Twitter education - bite-sized learning

Written by Agnes Bosanquet on April 30th, 2009

You may well be sick of hearing about Twitter, but have you thought about it in the context of learning and teaching?  Here’s a brief run-down of how it can work:

  • Wired campus reports on a Professor from Pennsylvania State University who uses two screens when he is lecturing - one to project his slides, and another to project a Twitter stream of notes from students.
  • The Chronicle of Higher Ed has a twitter feed, which is followed by more than 1,300 people interested in higher-education news.
  • This article lists 10 people worth following on Twitter, including Jay Rosen, associate professor of journalism at New York University who posts 25 times a day, and Amanda French, who is planning to Twitter her dissertation!
  • Check out the Twitter Handbook for Teachers, which offers an overview of Twitter and ways of using it in education
  • Birmingham City University academics criticised for offering a £4000 masters degree covering Twitter and other social networking websites are defending themselves on Twitter.  See The Guardian report.
  • Join the LTC social network to discuss Twitter and other technologies for learning and teaching.
