Mission

The LTC assists the university to enhance student engagement, learning experience, and outcomes by leading and supporting the University to develop and maintain the quality of its:

  • staff (teachers and higher degree research supervisors),
  • curricula, and
  • infrastructure for learning and teaching (including learning and teaching policy, resources, and the physical and virtual environments in which students learn)

  • aligned with the university's guiding principles and strategic priorities as outlined from time-to-time in the university's strategic plans (including its commitment to equity of access for all students)
  • focused on capacity building and systems change
  • data driven / evidence based
  • integrated (i.e., its core activities of academic development, curriculum development, and the development of learning environments, will be complementary and aligned)
  • undertaken in partnership with stakeholders throughout the university

Core responsibilities of the LTC:

The core responsibilities of the LTC are:

  1. to monitor and advance scholarship in the development of learning and teaching and higher degree research supervision
  2. to develop and maintain guidelines, standards, and resources to assist staff and organizational units to plan, design, implement, evaluate, and revise (i) programs/courses/units, (ii) learning and teaching resources, and (iii) technology enabled learning environments
  3. to design, develop, implement and evaluate professional learning programs for staff to build the knowledge and skills necessary to enable them to:
    1. teach, lead and manage for effective learning, and
    2. engage in the critical reflective practice necessary to support continual development of themselves; their learning, teaching, and supervision programs and resources
  4. to undertake and support institutional research and evaluation (particularly in the form of the analysis and reporting of student feedback data) to inform strategy development, quality assurance and enhancement of learning and teaching
  5. to maintain and develop an educational design and media production service to support the design, development and evaluation of learning and teaching media and resources
  6. to develop and maintain enterprise level learning systems and technologies that can be used by staff and students across the university to facilitate and enable learning
  7. to develop and maintain capacity and protocols to identify, evaluate, and test-bed emerging technologies, for integration into learning and teaching
  8. to maintain and develop (i) training and development programs, (ii) 'just in time' HELP facilities, and (iii) web-based resources to support staff to effectively use the University's chosen learning systems and technologies
  9. to provide evidence-based advice to the university on the development of its learning and teaching environments both virtual and physical.
