What is Academic Advantage?

Academic Advantage is Macquarie University's bonus point scheme that recognises HSC students' achievements in subjects that relate specifically to Macquarie's degree programs.

How does it work?

Evidence suggests that students who do well in certain HSC subjects also do well in related university degrees. Our academics have identified the HSC subjects that correspond to certain Macquarie degrees. Depending on your performance in each of these subjects, you may receive up to three bonus points for each one, with a total maximum of five points available.

Who is eligible?

Academic Advantage is available to all prospective students who have completed either an Australian year 12 HSC or the International Baccalaureate in Australia, the year prior to application. To be eligible for Academic Advantage you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

What degree programs are excluded?

Academic Advantage applies to all Macquarie University degree programs except for:

• All combined Law programs
• All Actuarial Studies programs (including combined degree programs)
• Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)
• Bachelor of Ancient History (Honours)
• Bachelor of International Studies
• Bachelor of Advanced Science

How many bonus points can I get?

You can receive up to five points based on your performance in HSC or International Baccalaureate subjects. You can receive a maximum of nine bonus points if Academic Advantage is combined with other access schemes such as uniTEST or the Lighthouse Scheme.

Exceptions are:

• All combined Law programs
• All Actuarial Studies programs (including combined degree programs)
• Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)
• Bachelor of Ancient History (Honours)
• Bachelor of International Studies
• Bachelor of Advanced Science

for which a maximum of six points will apply.

How do I apply?

Students do not need to submit a specific application for Academic Advantage. The Universities Admissions Centre will calculate eligibility automatically if a Macquarie University course is listed in your preferences.
