The Joan and John Lincoln Society was established by University Council to honour the elder statesmen and women of the University, and in particular those who have made it known they have left a bequest to the University in their will.
Macquarie University Chancellor Hon Michael Egan launched the Society at a special event on October 20, 2009. The Society was named after the late The Hon Dr John Francis Lincoln AM, and his late wife Joan. Dr Lincoln announced at the launch that he was establishing a scholarship fund for Indigenous students and that his bequest would augment that fund.
The Bequest Program began with graduate Derek To informing the University in 2008 that he wished to make a bequest to the University.
"I made the decision to leave a gift to Macquarie University in my Will, because I wanted to encourage outstanding students to undertake bachelor degrees in accounting, economics and mathematics. Making a gift was a very personal decision for me. It gave me a way to honour my family and to help Australia retain its intellectual talents. I am very pleased that my gift will have a lasting impact on Macquarie's future and make a real difference to future students."
