Golden Jubilee Symposium
On 6 March 1967, Professor Peter Mason delivered the very first lecture at Macquarie University, the introduction to the Department of Physics course Structure and Properties of Matter. As well as founding the Department of Physics at Macquarie, Professor Mason was a well-known science communicator, esteemed lecturer, student advocate and frequent guest on ABC Radio’s The Science Show.
To mark this significant anniversary in the history of the University, on 6 March 2017, the University held a celebratory symposium in the very same lecture hall, now known as the Mason Theatre. The event celebrated Professor Mason, his founding colleagues, and the student alumni of the very early years at Macquarie.
