Contact: Venerable Tsang Hui Venerable Tsang HuiAppointed 1997. Venerable Tsang Hui is the Abbot of Hwa Tsang Monastery in Homebush. He has been a Buddhist monk for more than 40 years. He migrated to Australia in 1977. He is one of the senior monks in Australia. Venerable Tsang Hui graduated from the Taiwan Normal University majoring in Education and Mathematics. When he first arrived in Australia, he gave spiritual guidance and support to the Indo-China refugee migrants and encouraged the young refugees to study. He saw education as the most important factor in helping refugees to take root in Australia. He gave free Mathematics coaching to the students, and encouraged them to study hard. With the encouragement of Venerable Tsang Hui, the University of New South Wales Buddhist Society (Unibuds) was formed in 1981. Subsequently members from the Buddhist society, assisted Venerable expand the free coaching program to include other high school subjects. Gradually the coaching program developed into a comprehensive Tuition Class. The Tuition Class continues to serve the community, and admission is on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of race or religious background. Currently there are 200 students studying in 31 classes conducted each week. There are still about 300 students on the waiting list. This self-supporting Tuition class program has been recognized by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs, as one of the outstanding programs that has helped new migrants to settle in Australia. It has also earned acknowledgement from Strathfield Council, for its volunteering program in assisting the community. Venerable Tsang Hui has great passion in education and is most skillful in giving guidance and advice to students, be it in their studies, their personal, or their spiritual development. He wishes to share the Buddha's teachings with all, especially the young people. Hopefully this will bring more meaning, peacefulness and happiness to everyone's life and society. These are the reasons why Venerable has encouraged the formation of Buddhist University societies. He helped establish Macquarie University Buddhist Society (Macbuddhi) in 1996. Venerable often gives Buddhist talks to students on campus, provides spiritual guidance to the students, as well as advises students how to maintain their focus in running their societies. Venerable Tsang Hui has been Patron of the Buddhist Society of the University of New South Wales since 1981, Macquarie University Buddhist Society (Macbuddhi) in 1996, and is also patron of Sydney University University Buddhist Society. << BACK |
