Workshops currently on offer

Resumes and Cover Letters

Do you want to improve your resume and get it ready for graduate and vacation work applications? This workshop looks at what employers want to see in a resume and cover letter, what you can do to enhance the layout and structure of your resume and cover letter and will help you avoid making some of the common errors students make in preparing resumes and cover letters for job applications. Bring your current resume along to the workshop and you will have the opportunity to have it reviewed and evaluated by fellow students.

Interview Skills

Want to know what to expect from an interview and improve your chances of being successful? This introductory workshop will cover how to prepare for an interview and what’s involved. It will offer strategies on how to answer interview questions, with a particular focus on behaviour based questions and explore the different types of interview you could encounter. Bring along any difficult questions that you or your friends have encountered in previous interviews and we can have a go at tackling them.

Online Applications

Online applications are now the preferred method of application for the majority of large organisations. This workshop looks at what employers expect of you when completing their online applications and what you can expect from them; strategies for tackling commonly asked questions and tips for avoiding common mistakes students make. Bring along any difficult questions that you or your friends have encountered in online applications and we will use the workshop to brainstorm effective responses.

Psychological and Psychometric Tests

Many organisations have now incorporated psychometric (aptitude and personality) testing into their selection process. The thought of undertaking this type of testing can be quite daunting, so this workshop aims to look at why employers use this them; the types of tests you are likely to encounter and what you can do to prepare. You will leave the workshop armed with resources and websites that will give you some practice examples of commonly used tests.

Marketing Yourself to Employers

We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc. To be successful today, your most important job is to be Marketing Director for the brand called You. This workshop will look at what employers are seeking from graduates and how you can conduct your marketing campaign to ensure to you meet their expectations and land yourself a job.

Applying to the Public Sector

When applying to jobs in universities or in government departments you will need to address the selection criteria detailed in the job advertisement. This workshop explores the rationale behind selection criteria; tackles what is required in a statement addressing selection criteria and presents examples of common selection criteria and what to draw on when addressing them. Bring along any selection criteria that you or your friends have encountered in public sector applications and we will use the workshop to brainstorm effective responses.

Workshops on other topics are scheduled throughout the year depending on demand.
