About Macquarie Accessibility Services
The Learning and Teaching Centre (LTC) is committed to supporting all staff in their efforts to develop and deliver accessible curricula in accordance with legislative requirements. Macquarie Accessibility Services (formally known as M-CAS) has been established as a separate unit within the LTC responsible for:
- conversion of materials into accessible formats to facilitate equity of access to information and knowledge for staff and students with access needs;
- providing leadership in the use of new and emerging technologies to enhance equity initiatives across campus;
- supporting staff in their efforts to develop accessible curricula and meet the needs of students with disabilities and other access needs;
- providing input to the development of cross institutional access and equity solutions, to assist the general student body as well as those with high end access needs;
- developing and showcasing 'Best Practice' access methodology for staff and students in the Higher Education Sector;
- participating in and initiating research projects related to facilitating equity of access to learning and teaching for students with access needs.
Central to the Philosophy of the MQAS approach is:
- The recognition of students as individuals who have their own access needs and have developed their own preferred methods for learning.
- There is no one size fits all solution to meeting these needs.
- That effective teaching methodology for all students involves:
- Catering for the individual needs of students.
- Facilitating an effective learning environment that is stress free and inclusive.
- Facilitating higher order thinking and greater learning outcomes through minimising cognitive load.
- MQAS is dedicated to facilitating equality of access to education, not just text conversion... access to the full educational experience.
