Structure of the Learning and Teaching Centre
The LTC works towards accomplishing many of its goals through the efforts of cross-sectional teams called 'portfolios'. Each Portfolio is a sub-group of the LTC Strategic Management Group.

The LTC pursues its mission through the integration of programs, activities and services offered through the portfolios and the five broad functional groups that together form the LTC:
- Academic Development Group (ADG)
- Educational Design Group (EDG)
- Learning Systems and Services Group (LSSG)
- Academic and Administrative Services Group (AASG), and
- Macquarie Accessibility Services (MQAS)
The specific roles and responsibilities of each of these functional groups is summarised below:
The Academic Development Group (ADG)
is responsible for leading and supporting the University in the development of scholarship and scholarly practice in learning, teaching and higher degree research supervision. Staff of the ADG:
- monitor and advance scholarship in the development of learning, teaching and research in higher education
- design, develop, implement and evaluate professional learning opportunities for staff to build the knowledge and skills necessary to enable them to:
- teach, lead and manage for effective learning,
- be productive, quality researchers, and higher degree research supervisors
- engage in the critical reflective practice necessary to support continual development of themselves, their learning, teaching and research programs and resources
- undertake and support institutional research and evaluation (particularly in the form of the analysis and reporting of student feedback data) to inform strategy development, quality assurance and enhancement of learning and teaching
- facilitate and support a program of Strategic Learning and Teaching Enhancement Projects
- develop, facilitate, evaluate and maintain the quality of the Institute's:
- Postgraduate Program in Higher Education Learning & Teaching;
- Foundations Programs in (i) (e)Learning and Teaching, (ii) Higher Degree Research Supervision, (iii) Leadership of Learning and Teaching; and
- Annual Workshop/ Seminar Program
- support the development of institutional/divisional strategy and policy aimed at improving scholarship and practice of learning, teaching and research through membership of, and contributions to, various university/ divisional committees and/or working groups, and
- engage in community outreach.
The Educational Design and Development Group (EDDG)
Responsible for leading and supporting the University in the design and development of sustainable and pedagogically sound educational curricula; facilitating and building capacity for the effective use of current and emerging learning environments. Staff of the EDD group:
To support the introduction of innovative and sustainable approaches to learning and teaching
- Consultation, advice and leadership in relation to curriculum and learning design and appropriate use of educational technologies
- Development of educational resources for use in teaching and learning, incorporating appropriate media and current or emerging technologies
- Contribution to the showcasing of good practice in teaching
- Develop and maintain guidelines, standards, and resources to assist staff and organisational units to plan, design, implement, evaluate, and revise programs/courses/units
To facilitate and support the use of blended approaches to learning and teaching
- Provide consultative services, training and planning in the use of the MQ Learning Technologies Platform, including the Learning Management System
- Support staff in the development of online components for units using the MQ Learning Technologies Platform
- Contribute to the professional learning programs of the learning and teaching centre in relation to blended approaches
- Provide consultation and advice in relation to the appropriate use of technologies for learning and teaching
The Learning Systems and Services Group (LSS)
The LSS is responsible for leading and supporting the University to develop virtual teaching and learning environments which encourage and facilitate student engagement and enhance students' learning experiences and outcomes. Staff of the LSS group:
- develop and maintain enterprise level learning systems and technologies that can be used by staff and students across the university to facilitate and enable learning and teaching
- develop and maintain capacity and protocols to identify, evaluate, and test-bed emerging technologies, for integration into learning and teaching
- in collaboration with staff from the ADG and EDPS groups, maintain and develop:
- Learning Management System services,
- a training and support program,
- a 'just in time' HELP facility, and
- resources in web, print and multimedia formats
- support staff to effectively use the available technologies and resources
- provide-evidence based advice to the university on the development of its virtual learning and teaching environments.
Macquarie Accessibility Services (MQAS)
Macquarie Accessibility Services is responsible for leading and supporting the University to develop principles and guidelines and practices to ensure equity of access for all students to the University's learning and teaching programs and resources. Staff of MQAS:
- convert learning and teaching materials into accessible formats;
- provide leadership in the use of new and emerging technologies to enhance equity initiatives across campus;
- support teaching staff to develop accessible curricula and meet the needs of students with disabilities and other access needs;
- provide advice on the development of cross institutional access and equity solutions, to assist the general student body as well as those with high end access needs;
- develop and showcase 'best practice" access methodologies for staff and students in the Higher Education Sector;
- participate in and initiate research and development projects related to facilitating equity of access to learning and teaching;
- from Semester 1 2012 convene the unit FOBE201 Working with and Employing people with disabilities.
The Academic and Administrative Support Services Group (AASS)
is responsible for (a) supporting the LTC's Academic Programs and Projects, and (b) the development and maintenance of the business and administrative systems necessary to enable the LTC to fulfill its mission and transact its core business.
- AASS staff supporting the LTC's academic programs and projects provide research and development assistance, and support the design, development, implementation, and enhancement of quality administrative systems to support the these programs, projects and services.
- AASS staff supporting the LTC's business administration design, develop, implement, and enhance the quality of the LTC's administrative systems to ensure effective coherence and integration of the LTC's core business systems (finance, HR, communications, IT, and so on) with those of the University.
