Department of Modern History, Politics and International Relations - Modern History
Postgraduate Overview
Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates in Modern History proceed primarily by thesis which is up to 40,000 words for an MPhil or 80,000 words for a PhD. Most students opt for a PhD which takes 3.5 years to complete.
Our HDR students become part of a highly research active community. As a small but dynamic and friendly department, we are able to offer a unique degree of staff student interaction and students are encouraged from early in their degree to participate in the department's research program. PhD students may also have the opportunity to gain valuable teaching or research assistance experience during the course of their candidature.
