The Henryk Skrzyñski Memorial Scholarship
Conditions of Award
- The purpose of the scholarships established by the Skrzyski's family and to be offered by the Polish Studies Foundation is to encourage students to study Polish language and culture in Poland and to assist them in covering the associated travel costs, or costs of studies.

- Applicants should be effectively enrolled in Polish units of at least six credit points (two units) in a given academic year when applying for the scholarship.
- The scholarship will be tenable for one year and students wishing to hold it for more than one year will be required to reapply.
- The scholarship is valued at $2000 dollars. It is payable to the successful applicant in the form of a travel and/or fee subsidy at the time travel arrangements are being made.
- Only Degree and Diploma students will be eligible for the scholarship. Should there be more eligible candidates in a given year than funds available, the scholarship will be awarded on a competitive basis according to the following principles (in this order):
- Degree and Diploma students
- Degree/Diploma students will be given preference;
- Students who have studied Polish units at Macquarie University for at least one year will be given preference over new students;
- Academic Merit (overall grade point average) can be used.
- The scholarship holder shall not be required, as a condition of the scholarship to render any service to the donor.
- The scholarship holder shall be free to publish any results arising from studies and research. Any publications should acknowledge that the work was done while holding the scholarship.
- The scholarship will be awarded by the University on the recommendation of a committee consisting of:
- Academic Registrar or nominee
- The Head of the Polish Studies Discipline;
- The Head of Department of International Studies or nominee
The Jan Rakowski Polish Studies Educational Scholarship
Conditions of Award
- The purpose of the scholarships, to be offered by the Polish Studies Foundation from interest accrued on the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars donated by Mrs Eudoxia Rakowska from Adelaide, is to encourage students from outside NSW and ACT area to study Polish units by the external mode at Macquarie University and to assist them in covering the associated costs, in particular, costs involved in attending residential schools at the University.
- Applicants should be effectively enrolled in Polish units of at least six credit points in a given academic year and, if they are applying for the second or later consecutive year, they will be required to demonstrate that they attended at least one residential school for external students in the previous year.
- The scholarship will be tenable for one year and students wishing to hold it for more than one year will be required to reapply.
- The scholarship might be valued 400 hundred dollars per person but depending on accrued interest each year.
- Only degree/diploma and cross-crediting students will be eligible for the scholarship. Should there be more eligible candidates in a given year than funds available, the scholarship will be awarded on a competitive basis according to the following principles (in this order):
- degree/diploma students from South Australia will be given preference over students from other States;
- degree/diploma students will be given preference over cross-crediting students;
- students who have studied Polish units at Macquarie University for at least one year will be given preference over new students;
- students with better average results from previous years will be given preference over students with lower results.
- The scholarship holder shall not be required, as a condition of the scholarship to render any service to the donor.
- The scholarship holder shall be free to publish any results arising from studies and research. Any publications should acknowledge that the work was done while holding the scholarship.
- The scholarship will be awarded by the University on the recommendation of a committee consisting of:
- the Vice-Chancellor or nominee;
- the Chairperson of the University's Undergraduate Studies Committee or nominee;
- a nominee of the Board of the Polish Studies Foundation;
- the most senior member of the academic staff from the Polish Studies, Department of European Languages.
- Applications should be made to the Registrar's Office and must be lodged with the Registrar not later than one month after the commencement of classes in a given academic year.
- The Jan Rakowski Polish Educational Scholarships will be available for as long as the Polish Studies Foundation supports Polish Studies at Macquarie University. Should the Polish stream cease to exist, the monies in the Polish Studies Foundation account, including the donation that is the basis for the scholarships, shall be disposed of in a manner prescribed in the Foundation's Constitution.
- If there are no applications for Jan Rakowski Scholarship from the students, or the candidates do not fulfil the criteria defined above the accrued interest from $25000 could be used for some purpose or purposes for Polish Studies other than the scholarship as decided by the Board of the Polish Studies Foundation, with the stipulation, if possible, that Jan Rakowski name be commemorated thereby.
The Krystyna Singler Memorial Prize for Most Outstanding Student
The Singler memorial prize for most outstanding student is offered by the Polish Studies Foundation from interest accrued on the sum of $13,500 donated by the late Mr Boleslaw and Mrs Krystyna Singler, formerly of Melbourne. The prize shall be to the value of $300 or such other amount as may from time to time be determined and may be awarded annually. The recipient is determined by the most senior member of the academic staff from the Polish Studies section of the Department of European Languages.
The Zygmunt Wszelaki Memorial Prize for most Outstanding Student
The Zygmunt Wszelaki Memorial Prize for most Outstanding Student is offered by the Polish studies Foundation from interest accrued on the sum donated by Zygmunt Wszelaki from Victoria.
The recipient is determined by the most senior member of academic staff from Polish Studies Section of the Department of European Languages. The prize shall be to the value of $300 or such other amount as may from time to time be determined and may be awarded annually.
