Macquarie University offers a range of scholarships. Most have a strong emphasis on social inclusion and equity and are awarded on the basis of financial need and/or other hardship. Others recognise factors such as academic excellence or sporting achievement.
Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarships
Commonwealth Scholarships (CS) assist Indigenous students from low socio-economic backgrounds, with costs associated with higher education.
- don't count as income for any social security test
- will be allocated to eligible applicants on a competitive basis
- don't need to be repaid
The Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarships that are offered at Macquarie are:
- Indigenous Access Scholarship (valued at $4984 in 2014)
- Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship (valued at $2492 in 2014)
- Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship (valued at $4702 in 2014)

The Macquarie University Dunmore Lang College Regional and Rural Scholarship
This Macquarie University and Dunmore Lang College R-n-R scholarship was created in recognition of the initial and ongoing costs for a student relocating from regional and rural Australia to study at Macquarie University. Recipients of the RNR Scholarship also receive other forms of support.
In addition to demonstrating that an applicant is relocating from regional or rural Australia successful applicants will need to demonstrate:
- demonstrated financial need
- capacity to triumph over hardship
- leadership or community involvement potential
- they are a new undergraduate domestic student to Macquarie University having not studied at University before
For 2014, some of these scholarships will be specifically for indigenous applicants.
Value: The successful applicant will receive:
A Macquarie Education Costs Scholarship (MECS) valued at $4938 (amount is indexed each year).
A fully funded standard room in (including board) Dunmore Lang College (valued at $13,000 per annum).
Scholarship renewable for up to 4 years if a student continues to meet eligibility criteria.
