Subjects Taught in Coptic Studies

Coptic is taught at Macquarie in Undergraduate (AHIS) and postgraduate (AHPG) modes. Introductory language and history units can only be studied at undergraduate level. The Coptic language units at postgraduate level require previous study of Coptic.

Research Projects

  • AHPG880 Documentary Project 
    A study edition, with historical analysis, of a group of selected artefacts or of Coptic documents. External options available subject to suitable supervision arrangements. Guidelines (PDF 37KB) are available for download.

  • AHPG882/883/884 Ancient History Minor Research Project
    The units consist in a research thesis of 15,000-20,000 words. The prerequisites include completion of four half year units (16 postgraduate credit points) with an average grade of at least "Credit", including AHPG896 or equivalent. External options available subject to suitable supervision arrangements.

    The difference between the units is merely administrative. AHPG882 is an 8 credit point, 2 semester unit starting in Semester 1 of every academic year. AHPG883 is for students who wish to commence a research project in the second half year. To complete the research project students must also enrol in AHPG884 in the first half-year of the following year. An incomplete grade ('I') will be awarded for this unit with a final grade being awarded for both AHPG883 and AHPG884 when the research project has been submitted and examined. Guidelines (PDF 60KB) are available for download.
