Staff Benefits

At Macquarie, we understand that our staff members are our most valuable asset. Therefore we offer a range of benefits to ensure all staff members feel that way.

Our fixed-term and continuing employees have access to the following benefits:

Staff Card

The Macquarie Staff Card entitles staff to borrowing privileges at the university library and staff discounts around campus.

Parking

The university offers staff on-site parking at comparatively low rates.

Salary Packaging & Salary Sacrifice

At Macquarie, staff members on continuing or fixed term contracts of more than 12 months are provided the opportunity to salary package a number of items that include (yet are not limited to) novated leases, laptop computers, calculators, electronic diaries, professional subscriptions, educational expenses, in-house childcare and taxi expenses. The University engages NLC Pty Ltd to manage the salary package scheme.

Salary sacrifice opportunities are available for superannuation, membership to our newly renovated sport and aquatic centre and on campus childcare.

Superannuation

A generous 17% employer's superannuation is paid to continuing and fixed-term staff on contracts of over 2 years who are covered under the Macquarie University Enterprise Agreement.

Other fixed-term staff members covered under the Enterprise agreement are paid 9% employer's superannuation.

Supperannuation entitlements for all employee's covered under the current Enterprise Agreement are paid to Unisuper.

Leave Provisions & Concessional Days

Macquarie's leave provisions put into practice our belief in a balanced lifestyle. Our leave provisions include Concessional days between the Christmas and New Year period and generous personal leave provisions including leave for moving residence, caring for family members, sick leave and compassionate leave.

Parental Leave

We believe in offering extra support for those staff members with families. Macquarie's parental leave provisions for staff under our current Enterprise Agreement 2006-2009 include, upon commencement, 14 weeks paid parental leave and an additional 12 weeks paid for staff members who have been in continuous employment with the university for more than 1 year.

Child Care: Banksia Cottage and Gumnut Cottage

As a staff member of the University you have the benefit of priority placement for your children in our on-site Banksia Cottage childcare centre. This is an independent childcare provider, which is not part of a large network. Your child will be stimulated by the spacious, light and friendly environments while being cared for by childhood professionals in a safe, nurturing and development-focused centre.

Our other childcare centre Gumnut Cottage is available for childcare arrangements with priority given to students.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Macquarie recognises that at certain times during life people may need extra support to assist in dealing with various circumstances. Our Employee Assistance Program is open to all employees and their immediate family members, and provides for six sessions (per person/family) with a trained counsellor in a supportive and confidential environment. For more information, please visit our website.

Staff Programs

Various activities or programs are run throughout the year to engage staff physically and mentally. Some of these include weight watchers at work, staff walking and sport groups, special interest groups, competitions and talks, or lectures on a range of stimulating topics.

Other benefits

All Macquarie staff will have access to our on-site post office, banking facilities, dentist, bulk billing medical facility, travel agent, sport & aquatic centre and various campus food outlets.
